Electrosurgery

Whilst moles, cysts, skin tags and lesions are common skin conditions, they can be irritating and uncomfortable. Thanks to the latest techniques, they can be effectively removed from the face and body to restore the comfort and appearance of your skin.

Vanish moles, skin tags & more with Electrosurgery

If you’re concerned or even embarrassed about moles, cysts or skin tags or lesions, we can carry out a simple procedure designed to remove them once and for all. Almost all common lesions are benign, but if you have a mole, cyst, skin-tag or lesion that we suspect may not be benign, we would not remove it and would refer you to your doctor.

Electrosurgery – What is it?

Electrosurgery is the application of a high-frequency alternating polarity, electrical current to biological tissue as a means to cut, coagulate, desiccate, or fulgurate tissue. Its benefits include the ability to make precise cuts with limited blood loss.

Electrosurgery – does it hurt?

The treatment can be momentarily uncomfortable. A little like a hot pin pricking the skin. If necessary a locally applied anaesthesia will be offered to you. The procedure is often over so quickly that most of the time this is not necessary. The treatment is very tolerable to nearly all patients.

Electrosurgery – what happens?

The treatment area will be assessed and thoroughly cleaned, the application of the current will be applied to the lesion to either cut it away or coagulate the tissue. Depending on the lesion it will either be removed straight away or will take 1 – 2 weeks to come away after treatment. A scab will form over the surface of the skin that has been treated and needs to be left to heal.

Electrosurgery – how long does it take?

The treatment itself is very quick. Most of the consultation will be completing paperwork and understanding your medical history that will need to be considered. Most treatments are completed within 1-5 minutes.

What will I look like afterwards?

Depending on the skin lesion you will likely have a small crust after the treatment that will need to be left alone to drop off.

What if my skin lesion looks suspicious?

We will not remove any lesion that we suspect may not be benign. We would refer you to a Dr within our clinic or back to your GP with a referral letter of your visit.
